You might notice large, black bees hovering around the outside of your home. These are carpenter bees looking for a favorable site to build their nest. Carpenter bees create holes in untreated wood. They use the holes as a nesting site, depositing several eggs in each hole.
Typical sites include wood siding, eaves, fascia boards, decks, window trim and wooden outdoor furniture.
They make perfectly round holes about the size of a nickel, an inch or two deep. From there they make a sharp turn where they lay their eggs.
If left alone they will follow their instincts and continue to expand their population; re-using untreated holes and building new ones.
Our treatment for these bees is to treat both the existing holes the carpenter bees have made as well as adjacent areas to prevent reinfestation.
We always recommend that all wood trim around the house be painted or stained regularly so that the wood is less susceptible to attack. After we treat existing holes we recommend waiting a week, then plugging them with wood filler and repainting/restaining.
We can treat both small problems of one or two holes as well as entire homes and other structures that need an extensive treatment. Call us now to learn how we can solve this problem for you.
